Which furniture fits on my balcony?

Before purchasing balcony furniture, it’s important to decide how you want to furnish your balcony and how much space you have or want to use.

From your seating position, you can often best determine how you want your balcony to look. That’s why the balcony bench forms the basis for furnishing a narrow or small balcony.

If you prefer to look across the width of your balcony, place the balcony bench in a corner. If you prefer to look outward from your balcony, place the bench along the width of the balcony to “peek at the neighbors.”

The balcony bench is available in various widths and depths. When measuring, take into account the total depth, height, and width, as well as opening windows and doors, a balcony gutter, and any wall protrusions.

Would you like a footstool to go with your balcony bench that you can also use as a side table or extra balcony seat? Then a matching ottoman or a storage box is very practical. This way, you can create a comfortable balcony lounge set, provided the depth of your balcony allows it.

If you enjoy gardening, you can also create a balcony garden, for example around your seating area or on the other side of your balcony if space allows. Consider a wall-mounted plant rack on the balcony wall or on the wall behind the balcony bench. Style a plant ladder with all kinds of lovely flower and herb pots. With a planter box with trellis, you can also create extra privacy right away.

Do I need to assemble the balcony furniture myself?

Most balcony furniture is assembled by yourself. Fortunately, this is easy and comes with a digital instruction manual.

How do I maintain wooden balcony furniture?

Would you like your wooden balcony furniture to stay beautiful for years to come? Then proper maintenance is essential. By treating your furniture regularly, you can prevent issues such as greying, moisture and dirt absorption, algae and mold growth, drying out, and small cracks.

For the best protection, we recommend Rubio DuroGrit or Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector. These products are specially developed to protect wood used outdoors. Both are easy to apply in just one coat and are available in various colors, allowing you to finish your balcony bench or balcony set exactly as you like.

It’s best to treat the furniture before the balcony bench is assembled. This way, you can fully treat each individual part before putting the bench together.

The duration of protection depends on how much sun, rain, and wind the wood is exposed to. In practice, it’s wise to repeat the treatment annually or every two years. In addition, regularly removing dirt and standing water from your balcony furniture will help extend its lifespan.

Can wooden balcony furniture stay outside during winter?

Yes, you can leave wooden balcony furniture outside during the winter.

When treated with Rubio DuroGrit or Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector, your furniture is extra well protected against the elements.

If your balcony furniture includes storage space, you can safely open it after wet weather to allow everything to dry and ventilate properly.

For optimal protection, we also recommend using a furniture protective cover with ventilation openings. The cover protects against rain and dirt while still allowing the wood to breathe.

If you have enough space, storing the furniture indoors is of course the very best option — but in practice this is often unnecessary or not practical.

In short: the best protection for your wooden balcony bench or balcony set is achieved by treating it with Rubio Monocoat DuroGrit or Hybrid Wood Protector and using a protective cover during winter.

This way, your balcony furniture remains easy to maintain, winter-resistant, and beautiful for many years, even on small or narrow balconies or rooftop terraces.

Which colors are available for balcony furniture?

You can give wooden balcony furniture a color by treating it with Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector or Rubio Monocoat DuroGrit.

These high-quality oils are available in a variety of colors.

What is included with the balcony bench?

The balcony bench is securely packaged and delivered in a thick cardboard box. Inside the box, you’ll find 7 parts, 12 stainless steel Allen bolts, and an Allen key.

Is the balcony bench waterproof?

The balcony bench is not 100% waterproof, as a gap of 3 to 5 mm is left between the wooden slats. During heavy or prolonged rainfall, the storage compartment will therefore not stay completely dry—though it will not become soaked either.

This also depends on how sheltered the location of the bench is and how long it rains.

We recommend not storing items in the storage compartment during wet weather or wet periods if they must remain completely dry.

Most customers store items in the balcony bench that are allowed to get wet, such as balcony gardening supplies, empty bottles, and outdoor toys.

To keep items completely dry inside the balcony bench, you may consider using suitable storage boxes or purchasing a protective cover.

Where are the teak balcony furniture pieces produced?

The products from Het Balkonbankje are produced in Indonesia by a professional furniture manufacturer. Through close collaboration, we strive for high quality and sustainability.

Under the close supervision of a master furniture maker, the wooden parts for the balcony furniture are cut and prepared from selected teak wood into components that together form, for example, a sturdy and safe balcony bench.

Each piece is fully assembled and thoroughly tested. Once the balcony furniture has passed inspection, it is carefully packaged and prepared for transport to the Netherlands.

The teak wood is produced under the FLEGT licensing system. Indonesia and the European Union work together to combat illegal logging and the associated trade.

Illegal logging has a devastating impact on some of the world’s most valuable forests and on the communities that depend on them. In 2003, the European Union published the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan. This action plan includes a set of measures to tackle illegal logging worldwide and promote sustainable forest management.

One of these measures is the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA). The VPA aims to stop the trade in illegal timber and ensure that only verified, legally produced timber and timber products enter the EU market. It is a legally binding trade agreement between the EU and a timber-exporting country. Indonesia and the European Union signed a VPA on September 30, 2013, which entered into force on May 1, 2014.

A key pillar of the VPA is Indonesia’s timber legality verification system, the Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK). This system ensures that timber and timber products harvested, processed, and exported from Indonesia originate from legal sources and fully comply with Indonesian laws and regulations.

The teak wood used for our balcony furniture and accessories comes from SVLK-certified teak plantations in Indonesia. Our producer holds a valid FLEGT license and purchases wood exclusively from officially certified timber suppliers. This ensures that the entire chain—from plantation to finished product—is transparent, controlled, and legal.

Indonesia and the EU are currently continuing the implementation of the agreement. For more information on the progress of the VPA and the Indonesian SVLK system, you can consult official EU sources.

Do you deliver to other countries?

We deliver within the EU. Currently, we ship outside the Netherlands to the following countries:

Do you charge delivery costs?

How quickly are orders delivered?

Delivery within the Netherlands usually takes 3 to 5 business days. For orders outside the Netherlands, delivery times generally range from 3 to 8 business days, depending on the distance.

You can always contact us if you need it sooner.

Which payment methods can I use?

We use the payment provider Mollie.

You can pay using well-known payment methods such as iDEAL, credit card, Apple Pay, bank transfer, and Klarna.

During checkout, you will always see a complete overview of all available payment methods for your country.

Are balcony furniture items delivered to the front door or inside the home?

Our balcony furniture is delivered to the front door. You may kindly ask the delivery driver if they can carry the furniture inside, but they are not obliged to do so, and this may be restricted by their employer.

Can I have my order delivered to a different address?

Yes, you can enter a delivery address different from the billing address during checkout.

What happens if I am not at home during delivery?

For parcel deliveries
As soon as you receive the first tracking email, you can choose how you would like your parcel to be delivered. You have several options:

1. Change the delivery date
2. Give permission to leave the parcel
3. Have it delivered to your neighbors
4. Designate a safe place around your home
5. Have the parcel delivered to a parcel shop for pickup

If you are not at home and have not selected any of these options, you will receive an email from the delivery service with a new delivery attempt or a notification that your parcel has been dropped off at a pickup point.

For pallet deliveries
For pallet deliveries, the carrier will contact you in advance to schedule a delivery appointment. If you are not present at the agreed time, the carrier may charge additional costs. These costs will be passed on to you.

Can I schedule a delivery appointment?

Yes, this is possible.

With parcel carriers such as DPD, you have several options once the package has been shipped: you can change the delivery date, give permission to leave the parcel, have it delivered to your neighbors, designate a safe place near your home, or have it sent to a parcel shop for later pickup.

For pallet deliveries, the transport company will schedule a delivery appointment in advance, so you can receive the furniture at a time that suits you.

Can I track my order?

Once your order has been shipped, you will receive tracking information by email at the billing email address you provided. This allows you to easily track your order and know exactly when it will be delivered.

Can I return or exchange my order?

Yes, you have 14 days to return a product after receiving it. The products must be in their original condition and packaging. Return costs may apply, depending on the reason for the return. Read our return policy here.

How much warranty do I get on your balcony furniture?

At Het Balkonbankje, you are entitled to a two-year warranty. This means that your product must perform as you may reasonably expect. In many cases, this involves repair, exchange, or replacement. Read more in our terms and conditions.

What to do in case of damage
Within warranty: Repairs are usually free of charge, unless the damage was caused by misuse. Any costs will always be discussed in advance.

Outside warranty: We are happy to look at the options together. Please contact us.

What should I do if my balcony furniture arrives damaged?

Always check your delivery upon receipt. If the product is damaged, report this immediately to the delivery driver and contact our customer service. If the driver has already left, that’s no problem—please report it as soon as possible. We will arrange a replacement or a refund.

Can I modify or cancel my order?

Orders can only be modified or canceled before they have been shipped. Please contact our customer service as soon as possible to request any changes. Of course, you can always place an additional order or return an item.

Do you offer an assembly service?

We do not offer an assembly service. Most furniture needs to be assembled by yourself. Fortunately, this is easy and comes with a digital instruction manual.
