Balcony lounge bench with storage – 120 x 90 x 90 cm
The balcony lounge bench of 120 cm wide has a seat depth of 80 cm and so a pallet bench cushion fits on it. Pallet bench cushions are also widely available. It is also the widest balcony lounge sofa in a series of 4 sizes where you can sit far back for maximum relaxation.
The lounge bench is made of durable plantation teak that is extremely resistant to rain, wind and sun. If you do not treat the balcony lounge bench, it will turn completely platinum gray due to weathering in about 8 to 12 months. This is a harmless natural process of any wood species because it loses its pigment on the surface due to UV radiation. A garden furniture stain, teak oil or teak sealer help best against the natural process of aging and drying out.
By the way, the bench is easy to assemble and very robust thanks to the sturdy assembly. What type of hardwood is the balcony lounge bench made of?
The teakwood used in the production of the balcony lounge bench comes from legal teak plantations and has been harvested by a producer with a valid FLEGT licence. FLEGT stands for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade. The EU FLEGT action plan was established in 2003. It aims to reduce illegal logging by strengthening sustainable and legal forest management, improving governance and promoting trade in legally produced timber. Countries around the world are acting to combat illegal logging and promote good forest management. On the website of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety you’ll find more information on the approaches that countries are taking, as well as on initiatives that transcend national borders.
How do I maintain the balcony lounge bench?
Teak wood is extremely weather resistant by nature and will turn a platinum grey in approximately 8 to 12 months due to the effects of weather. We always recommend treating our teak furniture with a high-quality teak sealer or stain before assembling the bench. Thus, we guarantee the best protection from the elements such as sun and rain. It is best to use a transparent matte cover to best retain the colour. Always apply it to the underside as a test before treating the whole product. This prevents a possible unwanted colour effect. For this we recommend Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector or Teak Wonder Teak Sealer.
Is the lounge bench easy to assemble?
The bench comes disassembled in a sturdy box and is easy to assemble. The bench consists of 7 separate parts and is mounted on both sides with 12 stainless steel socket head bolts, which are included in the delivery. An Allen key is included. Treatment and maintenance
Before assembling the balcony bench we recommend treating the teak wood with Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector, Teak Sealer from Teak Wonder or a transparent garden furniture stain. Next, maintain the balcony bench annually. This is especially easy with Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector. This is the only way to guarantee the best quality and therefore the longest possible lifespan.
Wood is a natural product and is therefore subject to weathering. As the sun, rain and wind exert their influence on the teak wood it will slowly age and dry out. Treating the wooden balcony bench slows down this natural ageing process. The balcony bench will also look more beautiful by enhancing its grain.

Sustainability
Our durable balcony furniture is made of plantation teak from Indonesia. The balcony furniture is produced under a FLEGT licence.
The abbreviation FLEGT stands for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade. The European Union concludes Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) with countries including Indonesia. Under the FLEGT licensing scheme, specified timber products (including teak balcony furniture) exported from a partner country such as Indonesia and entering the European Community at a customs post designated for release for free circulation must be covered by a FLEGT licence issued by the partner country.

Some background about Indonesia and FLEGT.
Indonesia covers approximately 181.2 million hectares, spread over 17,000 islands. About 70% of the land area is considered forested, with half allocated for production purposes. Almost one third or 34.8 million hectares of the national forest area has been deforested or degraded. In addition, 12.8 million hectares, or 10.7% of the national forest area, is designated for non-forest use. Of these, about half are forested.
Indonesia is one of the world’s largest exporters of tropical wood products, which are produced from logging activities in natural forests, industrial plantations and household-managed small-scale plantations, as well as from imported wood. Indonesia exports a wide variety of wood products, ranging from plywood, pulp and paper to furniture and handicrafts. The value of this trade amounted to EUR 10.4 billion in 2019.
The main export markets are in Asia (China, Japan and South Korea). Indonesia is also by far the EU’s largest FLEGT VPA trading partner, exporting timber products worth EUR 1.1 billion in 2019.
In 2003, Indonesia started to develop a market-based timber control system for all its timber exports, building on mandatory third-party certification for legality and sustainability. The system, called SVLK, became the basis for the timber legality verification system under the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between Indonesia and the EU. The VPA covers all exports and will gradually be extended to the domestic market.
On 15 November 2016, Indonesia began issuing FLEGT licences for verified legal timber products exported to the EU. In 2017, Indonesia issued 38,961 licences for shipments exported to all 28 EU member states, with a total value of over one billion euros. In 2019, 40,261 licences were issued for the export of timber products (for more information, see Indonesia’s SILK database).

Shipping Method Outside the Netherlands
- Depending on the order size or box dimensions, the order will be delivered by a parcel service or a carrier on a pallet.
- Parcels/small boxes will be shipped in a sturdy and well-packaged cardboard box.
Points of attention during delivery
We take the greatest possible care when sending and delivering our products to the given delivery address.- To ensure the best possible delivery, we recommend that you provide a mobile phone number where the person who will receive the order can be reached on the day of delivery. This way we or the driver can let you know exactly what time we will arrive and you can prepare for the delivery. Often there will be a phone call +/- 30 minutes before delivery.
- Always make sure that someone is present at the agreed time to take the order.
- Indicate well in advance if there are any situations that could make the delivery more difficult, making the accessibility of the delivery address less good or impossible.
- As soon as your order has been registered with the external carrier or parcel service, you will receive one or more track and trace numbers via e-mail
- If the order is delivered on one or more pallets, these pallets will always be returned with you
- The external carrier or parcel service delivers to the door or hallway on the first floor. Unless otherwise agreed, you must therefore take the order yourself and place it in the appropriate place
- If the delivery is outsourced to an external carrier you will receive a receipt or order letter from the driver
- If the package may be delivered to the neighbors, please report this in advance
- Always check the offered order for damage. If these are made to the packaging and therefore possibly the content, you should take pictures and ask for a signature from the driver. This is very important in a possible warranty process
- Good to know. If you are going to receive a package via a parcel delivery service, you will receive a message from the parcel delivery service shortly beforehand about the time period in which your package will be delivered. In this message you will find a link to several options to change your delivery. Think of a drop off permission or drop off at the neighbors. If you choose for drop off permission then you give the driver of the parcel delivery service permission to drop off or give in to the neighbors only that specific parcel at a safe place in your house. For this you, the consumer, give permission to the parcel deliverer. At that moment The Balcony Bench is no longer responsible for any damage whatsoever. All costs resulting from this, such as extra shipping costs, return costs, damage and compensation to The Balcony Bank for an incomplete and therefore unsalable product, will be borne by you as a responsible consumer.
