Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector
Sustainable protection for our teak balcony furniture and wooden garden furniture
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is a high-quality monocoat oil that has been specially developed to both colour and protect outdoor wood in a single layer. This oil is perfectly suited for our teak balcony furniture and wooden garden furniture, but works just as well on other wood types such as acacia, oak, larch, spruce and hardwood.
Thanks to its unique composition, the oil penetrates deep into the wood and forms a strong, long-lasting protection against sun, rain and temperature fluctuations. This ensures that your balcony and garden furniture stays beautiful for longer, while fully preserving its natural appearance.
How much do I need for a balcony bench?
As a guideline, for a 100 cm wide balcony bench you will need on average 400–600 ml to treat both sides. Most customers who use it for our balcony benches choose 1 litre, so there is sufficient product left for a future maintenance treatment. View customer photos of balcony benches and balcony lounge sets in different Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector colours and see how they look in real life.
One coat, maximum results
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is a true monocoat: a single layer is sufficient to colour and protect the wood. The oil bonds to the wood fibres on a molecular level, preventing overlaps, lap marks or stains.
This makes the product particularly suitable for wooden garden furniture and balcony furniture with many corners, slats and details. The finish looks clean and even, without gloss – exactly how wood is meant to look.
Suitable for all outdoor wood types
Whether you choose teak balcony furniture, a hardwood garden set or furniture made from softer wood types, this wood oil offers reliable protection. It prevents greying, slows down ageing and protects against moisture penetration and UV radiation.
As a result, Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is not only suitable for furniture, but also for wooden terraces, façades, fences and other outdoor applications.
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector colours
The pigments present in the various RMC Hybrid Wood Protector colours help protect the wood against greying. PLEASE NOTE: the colour PURE is not pigmented, meaning natural greying will occur more quickly. However, the level of protection remains equal to that of the other colours.
Available in 12 contemporary colours:
White, Pure, Natural, Teak, Royal, Chocolate, Charcoal, Grey, Black, Look Ipe, Light Grey, Taupe
Available in 8 trendy pop colours:
Sunflower, Veggie, Dolphin, Lagoon, Dragonfruit, Piglet, Poppy, Sunset. These colours are being phased out and will not return. Available while stocks last.
Easy maintenance, long-lasting protection
One of the major advantages of Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is its easy maintenance. When refreshing the surface, sanding or removing old layers is not required. Local touch-ups are sufficient, making it ideal for garden and balcony furniture that is used intensively.
This saves time, effort and costs, while keeping your furniture looking well-maintained year after year.
Environmentally friendly and safe
This wood oil is a conscious choice for both people and the environment. The formula is based on linseed oil, has a very low consumption rate and contains 0% VOC (volatile organic compounds). This means no harmful fumes during application and minimal environmental impact.
In addition, the oil complies with EN 71-3, making it safe for use on furniture that comes into contact with children.
Ideal for our teak balcony furniture
For our teak balcony furniture and wooden garden furniture, Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is the ideal finish. The product combines aesthetics, durability and ease of use in one solution and ensures your furniture can withstand all weather conditions without compromising on appearance.
Our teak balcony furniture such as the balcony bench, the balcony hocker and wooden plant wall racks are perfectly suited for a natural finish using Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector.
Although protecting and maintaining outdoor wooden furniture may seem time-consuming, there is a major advantage: teak garden furniture is easy to maintain. Combined with Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector, protection and maintenance become a simple task that requires very little time.
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector will not peel or form a film layer, and sanding the teak wood beforehand is not necessary. When it is time for a new coat after approximately one year, simply apply the same product again and your wooden balcony furniture will look as good as new.

Teak oil, teak sealer, DuroGrit or Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector – what are the differences?
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector
In our experience, Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector together with DuroGrit is one of the most complete solutions for maintaining wooden garden furniture and balcony furniture. The product combines colour and protection in a single layer and is suitable for almost all wood types, including teak.
The oil has excellent water-repellent properties, protects against UV radiation and performs exceptionally well under strong sunlight. Thanks to the monocoat technology, the product bonds to the wood on a molecular level, without overlaps or lap marks.
DuroGrit
DuroGrit is a water-based wood protection product that has been specially developed for outdoor applications exposed to extreme weather conditions. It is highly suitable for garden and balcony furniture that is intensively exposed to sun, rain and temperature changes.
Unlike oil, DuroGrit forms a breathable, protective layer on the wood. This layer is extremely colour-stable, prevents greying and offers high UV resistance. DuroGrit is especially interesting for those looking for a modern, even colour finish with longer maintenance intervals.
Teak oil
Although teak oil is often seen as the most obvious solution for maintaining teak outdoor furniture, we recommend carefully reconsidering its use. Immediately after application, the warm honey-golden glow that teak is known for appears, but unfortunately this effect is short-lived.
Teak oil penetrates deeply into the wood and remains relatively greasy, creating an ideal environment for mould. Over time, this increases the risk of wood rot, which is the greatest threat to any wooden outdoor furniture.
Teak sealer by Teak Wonder
A teak sealer is a better alternative to teak oil for protecting teak garden furniture. Unlike oil, a sealer seals the wood against moisture while still allowing it to breathe. This prevents the formation of a breeding ground for mould.
Teak sealer preserves the luxurious, natural appearance of teak and requires relatively little maintenance. In most cases, one treatment per year is sufficient to keep your furniture in top condition.

What makes teak wood so suitable for balcony furniture?
Before we go deeper into protecting and maintaining our teak balcony furniture, we would like to explain what teak is and which properties distinguish it from other wood types such as Douglas fir or scaffold wood.
Teak is widely known as a hard and durable hardwood that remains beautiful, straight and stable. Teak is also easy to protect and maintain. We use carefully selected plantation teak that is produced under a FLEGT licence.
A FLEGT licence is a document issued by a timber-producing country that has ratified a voluntary partnership agreement with the EU – in this case Indonesia. The licence confirms that the wood or wood products fully comply with relevant national legislation.
Even though teak is naturally very suitable, like all wood types it loses its pigments and turns silver-grey within 8 to 12 months. Wood also dries out over time and may develop small hairline cracks, where moisture and dirt can accumulate. Prevention is therefore better than cure.
Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector provides effective protection against this. If you want to preserve the warm honey-brown colour or give your balcony furniture a unique colour, Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector is the ideal solution, offering a wide range of colour options.
